Video Installation
Individual Work
Instructor: Sarah Moore
The studio is the core of what is to be an architecture student. This is a space that we paradoxically exist in physically while we are imagining and futuring new spaces intellectually. This installation explores how it is that students adapt their existing studio space and create their own micro-architectures while creating their work.
Perhaps the clearest way students adapt their studio space according to their desires is the pin-up board. The projected film is edited from archival footage, a process that exemplifies its own form of reuse and adaptation, and its final product represents the complex emotions and inspirations of myself as an architecture student. While most of the space was left candid, the drawings and models on the pin-up board and desks were rearranged to frame the video.
With minimal intervention, this video installation utterly transforms our mid-semester working space and meditates on studio as a highly significant aspect of architectural pedagogy.
